The truth on Starbucks Refreshers

Dear Kara,

I love the handbags! The mini cross body luggage color one really caught my eye.

I am sure you have noticed the new drinks at Starbucks that are coffee without the coffee taste. I have tried 3 of them now, lime, berry and sparkling strawberry. I get sick of my iced espresso and iced green tea routine so I was excited to have a new option.

I find the whole thing very interesting. The coffee is from un-roasted coffee seeds (green) and the extract blended with fruit juice. The drinks are refreshing and mild flavor. But when I did some research on the nutrition and caffeine content I wasn't too pleased. A grande has 50-70 calories and 13-15g of sugar; which isn't great compared to my espresso and tea at 0 calories and 0 sugar. BUT considering I just need to mix it up sometimes this still didn't bother me but then I came to the caffeine.  With only 60 mg this doesn't compare to espresso 75mg/shot, coffee 330mg, Red Bull 80mg/bottle, and 5 Hr Power 138mg.

Net Net....The Refreshers aren't all they are talked up to be. But thanks to Starbucks for continuing to try out new things.

XOOXOXOXOXOX
Margaret
